Assurance GDS® for E. coli O157:H7 Tq Approved by AOAC for 375 g Composite Samples
Bellevue, WA – November 15, 2013 – Assurance GDS for E. coli O157:H7 from BioControl Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in food safety testing, has recently received approval from AOAC International for use with 375 g composite size samples. During the required method extension study, Assurance GDS was found to perform comparable to the USDA and FDA reference methods for the detection of E. coli O157:H7 in raw beef and fresh produce.
The Assurance GDS pathogen detection platform offers many advantages to food producers and testing labs. The proprietary IMS-based sample preparation procedure captures and separates E. coli O157:H7 from the enrichment to help prevent inhibition associated with other molecular detection methods. Assurance GDS PCR technology provides two additional levels of specificity through the use of both highly specific primers and probes to ensure accurate detection of E. coli O157:H7. “As the USDA and FDA have moved to larger sample sizes, such as 375 g, the fresh beef and produce industries have followed suit. BioControl is pleased to offer our customers the reliability of an AOAC Official Method of Analysis validated for use with these larger sample sizes” says Lyssa Sakaley, Product Manager at BioControl. “Assurance GDS for E. coli O157:H7 provides results for 375 g composite samples in just 10 hours, making it one of the fastest methods available, which is extremely important when dealing with perishable products such as fresh beef and produce” explains Sakaley.
In addition to E. coli O157:H7, the Assurance GDS platform includes assays for Non-O157 Shiga Toxigenic E. coli (STEC), Salmonella, Listeria spp., Listeria monocytogenes and Cronobacter. Assays have been validated by a variety of 3rd parties including AOAC, AFNOR, MicroVal, and Health Canada, as well as, several multinational food manufacturing companies.
